BRIEFING

Mate Leaf. A new USP monograph for this dietary ingredient is being proposed. The liquid chromatographic procedure in the test for the Content of Caffeine and Hydroxycinnamoylquinic Acids was conducted using the Waters Acquity BEH Shield RP 18 brand of L1 column with 1.7-μm packing. The typical retention times for theobromine, theophylline, neochlorogenic acid, caffeine, cryptochlorogenic acid, 5-O-feruloylquinic acid, chlorogenic acid, 4-O-feruloylquinic acid, isochlorogenic acid C, isochlorogenic acid A, and isochlorogenic acid B were 1.6, 1.9, 2.4, 2.6, 3.6, 3.8, 4.0, 5.4, 6.8, 7.0, and 7.2 min, respectively.
