DEFINITION

Powdered Milk Thistle Extract is prepared from the dried ripe fruit of Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn. (Family Asteraceae) with the pappus removed, by fat removal and subsequent extraction with suitable solvents. It contains NLT 90.0% and NMT 110.0% of the labeled amount of silymarin, calculated as silybin (C₂₅H₂₂O₁₀), on the dried basis, consisting of: NLT 20.0% and NMT 45.0% for the sum of silydianin and silychristin; NLT 40.0% and NMT 65.0% for the sum of silybin A and silybin B; and NLT 10.0% and NMT 20.0% for the sum of isosilybin A and isosilybin B.
