BRIEFING

 Magnesium Sulfate. This proposal is based on the version of the monograph official as of June 1, 2023. On the basis of comments received, it is proposed to revise the Acceptance criteria in the Assay from "on the anhydrous by ignition basis" to "on the previously ignited basis" to align the standard and sample preparations with the Acceptance criteria. Also, it is proposed to revise the monograph with the following changes:

1. Update the molecular weights of magnesium sulfate (1:1) monohydrate and the anhydrous form in the Chemical Information section.

2. Update the Assay per current USP style.

3. Update the Chloride and Sulfate test per current USP style.

4. Update the Iron test per current USP style.

5. Update the Selenium test per current USP style.

 Additionally, minor editorial changes have been made to update the monograph to current USP style.

 The comment period for this revision ends on May 31, 2025. In the absence of any significant adverse comments, it is proposed to implement this revision via an Interim Revision Announcement with an official date of September 1, 2025.
