DEFINITION
European Elder Berry Dry Extract is prepared from the fresh or frozen ripened fruits of Sambucus nigra L. (Fam. Viburnaceae) by extraction with alcohol or with water followed by purification over an adsorbent resin column and eluting using hydroalcoholic solvents. It contains NLT 15% of total anthocyanosides, and NLT 90.0% and NMT 110.0% of the labeled amount of total anthocyanosides, both calculated as the sum of the chloride salts of cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside-5-O-glucoside, cyanidin-3,5-di-O-glucoside, cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside, and cyanidin-3-O-glucoside on the anhydrous basis. It also contains NMT 0.2% of cyanidin as a chloride salt on the anhydrous basis. It may contain suitable added substances as carriers.
