BRIEFING

 Garlic. This proposal is based on the version of the monograph official as of December 1, 2015. It is being proposed to revise the monograph with the following changes:

1. Update the botanical family designation from Liliaceae to Amaryllidaceae.

2. Replace the TLC method in Identification A with an HPTLC method to minimize solvent consumption and the duration of the analysis.

3. Omit Identification D because of the lack of evidence of adulteration with elephant garlic (Allium ampeloprasum var. ampeloprasum).

4. Remove the USP Agigenin RS and USP β-Chlorogenin RS reference standards.

 Additionally, minor editorial changes have been made to update the monograph to current USP style.
