BRIEFING

 Physical Environments That Promote Safe Medication Use 〈1066〉. This proposal is based on the version of the chapter official as of August 1, 2015. The Healthcare Quality and Safety Expert Committee is proposing the following revisions: 

1. Restructure the chapter so that the information presented is more organized.

2. Remove “procurement” from 1. Introduction.

3. Rename Organizational Support to 2. Organizational Factors.

4. Rename Principles from Human-Factors Research to 4. Human Factors Engineering (HFE) Principles of Safety.

5. Add definition of medication errors.

6. Add information on high-reliability organization (HRO).

7. Add globally inclusive language for non-US stakeholders.

8. Update recommendations for work system and physical environment design.

9. Update 9. The Home Environment to include more information on medication storage and disposal and transport to the home environment.

 Additionally, minor editorial changes have been made to update the chapter to current USP style.
