1. INTRODUCTION
This chapter provides guidance regarding scientifically sound practices for the chemometric analysis and interpretation of data for compendial and industrial applications. More specifically, it establishes a framework for which a model (either univariate or multivariate, either qualitative or quantitative) is established to provide a method to estimate a desired property (e.g., tablet uniformity) out of an easy-to-measure property [e.g., near-infrared (NIR) measurement]. The basic steps of this procedure life cycle approach include exploration, calibration, validation, and maintenance of the model.
