DEFINITION
Colistimethate Sodium is prepared from colistin by the action of formaldehyde and sodium hydrogen sulfite to form a mixture of di to penta bis-sulfomethylated primary amine derivatives, mainly Colistimethate A and B. It is a semisynthetic product derived from a fermentation product. Colistimethate Sodium has a potency equivalent to NLT 390 μg of colistin per mg.
