Streptococcus Salivarius

DEFINITION

Streptococcus salivarius is a lactic-acid producing, Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic bacterium. Cells are non-motile, cocci-shaped, and found in chains or pairs. Suitable cryoprotectants may be added to the concentrated bacteria following fermentation, after which the product is frozen and freeze-dried. The formulated product may be blended with suitable diluents and/or bulking agents. It contains NLT 100% of the labeled viable cell count of the specified strain of Streptococcus salivarius.

  • Strain K12: Streptococcus salivarius K12 (ATCC strain designation BAA 1024) is a pure, specific strain of Streptococcus salivarius.

  • Strain M18: Streptococcus salivarius M18 (ATCC strain designation BAA 2593) is a pure, specific strain of Streptococcus salivarius.
