DEFINITION

European Elder Berry Aqueous Dry Extract is prepared from the fresh or frozen ripened fruits of Sambucus nigra L. (Fam. Viburnaceae) by water extraction, followed by ultrafiltration, further concentration by water removal, and finally spray drying. It contains NLT 14% of total anthocyanosides, and NLT 90.0% and NMT 110.0% of the labeled amount of total anthocyanosides, both calculated as the sum of the chloride salts of cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside-5-O-glucoside, cyanidin-3,5-di-O-glucoside, cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside, and cyanidin-3-O-glucoside on the dried basis. It also contains NMT 0.2% of cyanidin as a chloride salt on the dried basis. It may contain suitable added substances as carriers.
