DEFINITION
Pomegranate Fruit Dry Extract is prepared from the fresh or dried fruit or from the fresh or dried marc remaining after the extraction of the juice from the fruit of Punica granatum L. (Fam. Lythraceae), further extracted with water or hydroalcoholic mixtures. It contains NLT 10% of ellagitannins, calculated as the sum of punicalagin (A and B isomers) (C48H28O30) and punicalin (A and B isomers) (C34H22O22), and 90.0%–110.0% of the labeled amount of total ellagitannins, all calculated on the dried basis. It also contains NMT 5% of ellagic acid (C14H6O8), calculated on the dried basis. It may contain suitable added substances as carriers.
