Acacia

DEFINITION

Acacia is the dried gummy exudate from the stems and branches of Senegalia senegal (L.) Britton [syn. Acacia senegal (L.) Willd.], common name of the exudate “gum arabic”; Vachellia seyal (Delile) P.J.H.Hurter (syn. Acacia seyal Delile), common name of the exudate “gum talha" but also accepted in commerce as “gum arabic”; or of other related African species of Senegalia or Vachellia (Fam. Fabaceae, also called Leguminosae).
