DESCRIPTION
Rutin occurs as a yellow, crystalline powder that consists of a flavonoid that is produced by the aqueous extraction of various flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Major plant sources of Rutin include buckwheat, the Japanese pagoda tree, and the leaves of several species of eucalyptus, such as Eucalyptus macrorhyncha. Other sources of Rutin include lime tree flowers, elder flowers, hawthorn leaves and flowers, rue, St. John's Wort, Ginkgo biloba, apples, and other fruits and vegetables. It is very slightly soluble in water, slightly soluble in boiling water and in ethanol, and soluble in solutions of the alkali hydroxides and in ammonia.
