BRIEFING

Chlorophyllins, Copper Complexes Sodium and Potassium Salts. Because there is no existing FCC monograph for this food ingredient, a new monograph is proposed for Chlorophyllins, Copper Complexes Sodium and Potassium Salts on the basis of information and data received. This proposal originally appeared in the June 2024 FCC Forum, but it has been canceled to adjust certain Acceptance criteria. This new proposal includes the following:

  1. In Identification A, add the volume ratio of dibasic sodium phosphate to monobasic potassium phosphate to clarify Medium preparation.

  2. Revise the Acceptance criteria in the following tests:

    1. Replace NMT 0.010% to 0.001% for Dichloromethane in the Residual Solvents test under Organic Impurities.

    2. Replace NMT 0.25% to NMT 0.02% in the Ionic Copper test under Inorganic Impurities.

    3. Replace NMT 4.25% to 4%–6% in the Total Copper test under Specific Tests.

    4. Replace NLT 4.0% to 3.98%–5.98% in the Chelated Copper test under Specific Tests.

All comments are encouraged; however, comments are specifically requested on the updated copper limits and the use of a spectrophotometer to quantify the purity of the salts as the concern to the precision of this quantification.

This proposal is targeted for publication in the First Supplement to FCC 15.
