DESCRIPTION
Mace Oil occurs as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with the characteristic odor and taste of nutmeg. It is the volatile oil obtained by steam distillation from the ground, dried arillode of the ripe seed of Myristica fragrans Houtt. (Fam. Myristicaceae). Two types of oil, the East Indian and the West Indian, are commercially available. It is soluble in most fixed oils and in mineral oil, but it is insoluble in glycerin and in propylene glycol.
