labdanum oil
DESCRIPTION
Labdanum Oil occurs as a golden yellow, viscous liquid with a powerful, balsamic odor, which on dilution, is reminiscent of ambergris. It turns dark brown on standing. It is the volatile oil obtained by steam distillation from crude labdanum gum extracted from the perennial shrub Cistus ladanifer L. (Fam. Cistaceae). It is soluble in most fixed oils and in mineral oil, but it is insoluble in glycerin and in propylene glycol.
