DESCRIPTION
Gum Ghatti occurs as colorless or light to dark tan tears. It is also available as a gray to red-gray powder. It is the dried gummy exudate from the stems of Anogeissus latifolia Wall (Fam. Combretaceae). It is a complex, water-soluble, acidic polysaccharide composed of the calcium and magnesium salts of l-arabinose, d-galactose, d-mannose, l-rhamnose, d-xylose, and d-glucuronic acid. It is slightly soluble in water, but it is insoluble in 90% alcohol.
